First Aid Kits for the Home

Now that most of us are all cooped up in our homes during this quarantine, you may have time on your hands to start or finish up some home projects that you have been meaning to get to. One important project to focus on is taking a look at your home First Aid Kit…or better yet start thinking about investing in one if you don’t’ have one.

Even though most first aid emergencies occur at the workplace, it is still important to be prepared at home because you never know when a first aid emergency may strike. It is also a good idea to keep a First Aid Kit in your car for emergencies.

Here’s what the American Red Cross recommends to have in a home First Aid Kit for a family of four:

2 absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches)                    -2 hydrocortisone ointment packets

-25 adhesive bandages (assorted sizes)                                   -1 gauze roller bandage (3 inches)

1 adhesive cloth tape (10 yards x 1 inch)                                -1 roller bandage (4 inches wide)

5 antibiotic ointment packets                                                    -5 sterile gauze pads (3 x 3 inches)

5 antiseptic wipe packets                                                           -5 sterile gauze pads (4 x 4 inches)

2 packets of aspirin                                                                       -Oral thermometer

1 emergency blanket                                                                   -2 triangular bandages

1 breaking barrier with a one-way valve                                   -Tweezers

1 instant cold compress                                                             -Tick remover kit

2 paid of non-latex gloves                                                           -Emergency First Aid Guide

You can of course make your own first aid kit using the checklist above, or you purchase an already put-together first aid kit, either way, you will be better prepared than not having one at all!
